Google Business Profile checklist for HVAC shops

This page is a Google Business Profile checklist for US HVAC shops with about 1-15 people. Primary category hygiene, services, hours, photos, Q&A, and a tap-to-call number you actually hear. Better Call Stan is home-service growth for small shops.

Optional printable pack

This page stays free to read. The paid rung is the same body as a printable / email pack when checkout is live. Hot buyers can skip straight to a $497 teardown.

Who this is for (and who it is not)

For: the owner who already pays for clicks and still watches the phone go quiet. HVAC default; the same hygiene applies to plumbing and electrical with different category labels.

Not for: franchise networks, multi-location marketing teams, or homeowners booking a repair. I do not rank Better Call Stan as a trade shop.

Why the Google card matters

Homeowners search no-cool and no-heat and tap a card that looks real. Your website does not matter tonight if the map card is thin. On many searches Local Services Ads (when present) sit above the Local Pack; the Pack itself is the Google Business Profile listings. The card is the thing to fix first.

Checklist: make the card callable

  • Primary category matches what you sell (see hygiene below)
  • Services list the jobs you actually take (no-cool, no-heat, tune-up, replace, membership)
  • Hours are honest, including after-hours / emergency note if you run it
  • Service area matches the ZIPs you will drive
  • Real job photos (tech at the condenser, not a stock handshake)
  • Q&A answered in plain English
  • Tap-to-call number rings a phone YOU hear
  • Tracking number on the card (separate from site / ads) so you know which channel rang
  • License / insurance visible where the card allows
  • Fresh reviews (not four from 2022)

Category hygiene (HVAC)

Wrong primary category and you disappear for the query that pays.

  • HVAC contractor vs air conditioning repair vs heating contractor
  • Pick the primary that matches the money work you want
  • Add secondary categories only for work you will actually book
  • Do not stuff every keyword into the business name

Reviews (safe)

Ask after a closed, paid job. Google forbids paid-review incentives. Soft ask only: a short note on the job helps neighbors. Do not request specific content, star counts, or a tech's name.

LSA note (badge language)

HVAC often qualifies for Local Services Ads when license, insurance, and reviews clear. On the SERP, use Google Verified / Google Verified badge language only. Google used to say Guaranteed / Screened; that badge set and consumer money-back ended in late 2025. Do not call the current badge Google Guaranteed.
